I love a sure thing. Don't you? Have you ever had to find a very popular and special gift for someone during Christmas? You know, the kind of gift that is selling on e-bay for 4 times its value? Then you find someone that has the gift at local store and they hold it for you? Nerves suddenly calm, tensions are released, and everything begins to slow down a bit. You finally finished the hunt. You go to the store and you walk at a different pace then the rest of the world because you have a guarantee that the gift is waiting for you.

You and I have this same promise. But we have to trust God to define what the results are. We don't determine the outcome, God does. This means that we will face disappointments, discouragements, and challenges. When we try to determine the outcome on our own, we have missed the point of this guarantee.
What this guarantee of overcoming does do, however, is help us to realize that God is sovereign and everything will work out for good. I don't know about you, but that is encouraging!
He is King. He is Lord. He is Sovereign. We will overcome because God cannot be defeated. Because He cannot be overcome, neither shall His children.
I can approach the New Year, with all of its unknowns, with courage because I have a guarantee that I will overcome.
