Where are the true Prophets today?

I am preaching a series through 1 Peter right now and I was amazed at what God inspired Peter to write to a group of struggling Christians.  You ask, what did God say?  Doctrine. And lot's of it.  Obedience, and more of it.  The Second Coming. Remember it!  I could not help but think about the modern day message and how it is overly focused on today and not our future eternal existence.

Please don't misunderstand me, I know that God wants us to be blessed in this life.  Their is an abundance of scripture that teach that.   But I believe that the "everything will be ok" message is being overly preached and  it is also preached to people that are living in rebellion to God's ways.  It was in Jeremiah's day.  In Jeremiah 23:17-18 the Lord said,

 

"They preach their 'Everything Will Turn Out Fine' sermon to congregations with no taste for God, Their 'Nothing Bad Will Ever Happen to You' sermon to people who are set in their own ways. ¹⁸ "Have any of these prophets bothered to meet with me, the true God? bothered to take in what I have to say? listened to and then lived out my Word? (MSG)

What astounded me was where the "prophets" of Jeremiah's day were receiving their "revelations."  In Jeremiah 23:25 & 30-31  the Lord said,

 "I know what they're saying, all these prophets who preach lies using me as their text, saying 'I had this dream! I had this dream!'... "I've had it with the 'prophets' who get all their sermons secondhand from each other. Yes, I've had it with them. They make up stuff and then pretend it's a real sermon. "(MSG)

The false prophets were telling people that were in sin that everything would work out.  Where were they getting their messages?  Either from a quasi spiritual experience (dreams & visions) or from one another - WOW! We know that God gives dreams and visions, but they will always be in accordance with the Word of God. These revelations were against the Word of the Lord.  Does that not sound like many today?  They forsaken Biblical teaching for anything that sounds spiritual!  May we recognize that God's truth contained in His Word is our bedrock and focus.  May God help you and I to be true prophets!
