When Life Throws You a Curve Ball

We've all been there, life is going along fine, your in the center of God's will, and then out of nowhere a radical change comes into your life that you did not expect.  If anything, you expected the opposite to happen. I recently was faced with some situations that I did not expect to happen. I was challenged with a wide aray of emotions and temptations. I was tempted by Satan to do things like:

  • Get Angry at God
  • Mourn the loss of my old life (and never move on)
  • Live in fear of what tomorrow holds
  • Live in Denial

Thankfully, God in His mercy led me through His Word and to the story of Abraham. Abraham is a good example of how to act during confusing times.  If you will recall the story of Isaac's birth, the Lord super-naturally enabled Sarai to have Isaac when she was to old to get pregnant.  Isaac was the child of promise, the child through whom Abraham would be a great nation.  God blessed Abraham's home and Isaac grew to be a strong young man.  Everything was going fine when suddenly God threw a curve ball Abraham's way. In Genesis 22:2  God said,

"Take your dear son Isaac whom you love and go to the land of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains that I'll point out to you." (MSG)

I cannot imagine the emotional temptations : confusion, doubt, depression, denial, and  despair.  We all have experienced these moments in life.  Some that are reading this post have been given a curve ball and are still in a state of shock.  What do we do?  What did Abraham do?  The very next verse tells us:

"Abraham got up early in the morning and saddled his donkey."

He just did what God told him to do.  Period.  And you know what?  Not only did Isaac NOT get sacrificed, but Abraham learned a new name for God - Jehovah Jireh - the Lord will provide.  When curveballs come, and they will come, just do what God wants and watch God work amazing results.  You might just learn something along the way too.

Swung and missed any curveballs lately?  Can you see how reckless obedience is the key to hitting a Home Run?

Good article...got to love those curve balls :)

The only way to get through is to completely trust in God that He knows what is best and He knows what He is doing.
