Many believers find themselves in despair when life is challenging but many do not understand the purpose that God has for the specific trial their in. It is consistent with both scripture and historical accounts that individuals that endure and overcome trials throughout life are those that are mightily used of the Lord. Do you remember in Matthew 17:1 when Jesus was transfigured on the mountain? He only invited three disciples with Him - Peter, James, and John.
Now fast forward to the Garden of Gethsemene (Greek for being pressed like a grape). Who did Jesus invite with Him? Peter, James, and John. Why is this significant? Because those that climb the highest mountains must at times go through the deepest valley. I cannot imagine the suffering of the Garden, but it was the inner circle of disciples that endured it.
I realize life can be hard. But I also realize that there is a purpose for the challenge. God will deliver us from the ties that bind, but rather then going through it in despair, let us go through the valley with confidence, power, and peace!
Have you found that you allow despair to grip you?
