Often times a believer can be discouraged if a trial does not end as soon as he or she would like. During this frustrating period of time it is helpful to go back to the Word and remind ourselves of God's promises. After we have reminded ourselves, it is helpful to remind God of His promise. It is a clear biblical principle to remind God of what He has promised. It is not that He forgets, but He does respond to a persistent believer that continues to remind Him of what He has said. In Psalms 34:15-17 David wrote:
15 The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, And His ears are open to their cry. 16 The face of the Lord is against those who do evil, To cut off the remembrance of them from the earth. 17 The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, And delivers them out of all their troubles. (NKJV)
Notice the Following:
- His Eyes are focused on us - this helps us to remember that He has not forgotten our plight
- His Ears are open to our cry- this helps us to remember that He has heard our prayer
- His Face is against our enemies - this helps us remember that He is our defense
- He has promised to deliver - this helps us remember that God will free us from the situation
I don't know about you, but that sure is some encouraging stuff! God is actively involved in our lives! Let's stand on His Word and trust in His grace!
Do you find that you remind God of His promises much?
