Joshua 1:8 (NKJV)
8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
Do you read your Bible much? Frighteningly enough, most church goers don't. I never understood the lack of emphasis people that claim to be Christ followers place on reading their Bible. Who do they think their following? How do you follow someone that you don't listen to? Would you drive cross country without directions? I wouldn't.
I hate getting lost.
This why I enjoy GPS units so much. I could be traveling somewhere I have never been but with the GPS unit it I never worry about taking a wrong turn. It does not matter if there is traffic, rain, or sunshine the GPS unit directs my drive. This is how the Bible should be to the believer.
For Joshua, this was the way the instructions contained in the Word's of God were to be utilized. They were to be directives by which Joshua would navigate through treacherous terrain. God's directives were another key to his success.
God's statements are conditional. If you read the Word of God and obey it, then you will overcome. Simple isn't it?
This New Year, commit to read the Word of God like never before. Get several translations and find out what God is saying. I personally feel that devoting an amount of time is favorable over committing to read a number of chapters. This is because we all skim read when we are reading too much. If I set a goal for an amount of time (For Joshua, it was a Day and night thing), I will spend more time meditating and dwelling upon the passages so that I can then APPLY the instructions contained in them.
Just collecting data is like reading the road map and not driving anywhere. We tell everyone about how we memorized the directions to Albequerqe, NM but we never go there. As silly as that sounds, that is how many church goers act when concerning God's instructions. We memorized the verses contained on how it is more blessed to give then to receive but we never give. Wow....?
Let's spend time in the instructions God has given us and apply them. Then we will be prosperous and then we will have great success this New Year.
