You are who you serve

By now I am sure most of you have heard about the crowd that killed the Walmart employee for some cheap tv's and socks. If you haven't, here is an excerpt from Myway.com

NEW YORK (AP) - Police were reviewing video from surveillance cameras in an attempt to identify who trampled to death a Wal-Mart worker after a crowd of post-Thanksgiving shoppers burst through the doors at a suburban store and knocked him down.......Other workers were trampled as they tried to rescue the man, and customers stepped over him and became irate when officials said the store was closing because of the death, police and witnesses said.

So why bring this up you ask? A week ago I wrote about the god of Materialism. This is exactly how someone acts when they are serving this false god. James put it this way:

James 4:1-2 (NKJV) ¹ Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members? ² You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask.

I want to repeat part of the copied article and then make my point - "Other workers were trampled as they tried to rescue the man, and customers stepped over him and became irate when officials said the store was closing because of the death, police and witnesses said." They were not bothered at the innocent killing, they were bothered they could not get their cheap stocking stuffers and presents.


People don't understand that you are who you serve. These people were serving their god of materialism and it showed by their actions. They lusted for good deals and it did not matter who or what was in there way.


As followers of Christ, we must recognize this god is worshiped across our land and we must not bow our knee to it. We must give - for it is more blessed to give then to receive. Don't allow the Christmas commercials, activities, and gift giving sway your devotion to Christ likeness and sacrificial giving!
