In Luke 24:15-16 we read of an interesting circumstance that we often find ourselves in.
15 So it was, while they conversed and reasoned, that Jesus Himself drew near and went with them. 16 But their eyes were restrained, so that they did not know Him.
Two of the disciples were so distraught over the death of Christ that they could not see what God was doing around them. Don't we do this? We get so consumed with the challenge, the failure, the problem that we lose sight of the voice of the Lord. Beloved, we must see God behind the scenes working things out for His glory. In this passage in Luke, their emotions got the best of them and it clouded their spiritual sensitivity. May this not be said of you and I! May we see past the turmoils of life and see that Jesus is walking right next to us.
I am reminded of the poem "Footprints". The person did not understand that during the most difficult times of life it looked as though the person was carrying himself. Jesus looked at the man and and told him that it was during the most difficult times of life that Jesus was carrying him. That was why there was only one set of footprints.
Although things can be confusing, let us never forget this passage of scripture. Jesus was with them, they just did not realize it until later.
"Lord, Help us to sense your presence, to know your love, and enjoy you in the most challenging times in our lives."
